About Doug MacLeod
In 1987, he graduated from Queen's University law school and received his LLB. In March 1989, Doug was called to the Ontario Bar which meant Doug was qualified to practice law in Ontario. In the fall of 1991, Doug started a Masters of Law degree or an LL.M at the University of Toronto. He completed the course work in 1992, however, his thesis which deals with the relationship between seniority rights and Ontario's employment equity legislation is now - not surprisingly - on hold. The Road from Bay Street to St. Clair AvenueIn 1987-88, Doug articled with the Bay Steet law firm, Osler, Hoskin & Harcourt. After successfully completing the Law Society of Upper Canada's Bar Admission course he started working in Osler's labour department. Doug spent his time at Osler's doing legal research, drafting employment contracts, reviewing corporate transactions from an employment perspective, and writing draft opinion letters on various employment law and labour relations issues. The department's client base was mostly large blue chip corporations. Doug provided advice on the full range of employment issues including: human rights; employment standards; workers' compensation; and, health & safety. He also researched many issues that arise in the context of a labour arbitration. In 1990, Doug joined the labour department at the well-regarded litigation firm, Genest, Murray, DesBrisay, Lamek. Many of the department's clients are public and quasi-public sector employers. He divided his time about equally between employment and labour law. At Genest, Murray, Doug continued to provide oral and written advice on the full range of employment and labour law issues. At the beginning of 1991, Doug was seconded from Genest, Murray to the provincial government for three months. After this secondment, He returned to Genest, Murray Doug continued his labour and employment law practice. In 1993, Doug started his own labour and employment law practice. He continue to provide advice and representation to employees and employers on the full range of employment and labour law issues. Doug is married with two children. His interests include golf and recreational hockey. He is President of the Let's Educate and Prepare Youth Bursary Program. |
